Skimmer Equalizer Line
The equalizer is in the case of two or more skimmers or in a commercial application a line that runs from the forward or the hole closest to waters edge in the skimmer to the pool. In addition to the main inlet the skimmer system has a secondary equalizer line leading to a drain below the surface level.
Instead of ripping out the skimmer i want to run a new line from the dummy equalizer line that is currently capped to the valve at the equipment and just close the first clogged line with a plug at the bottom of the skimmer.

An open equalizer line disconnected from the pump still allows a marginal benefit from an equalization of the water level between the pool basin and skimmer allowing the water level to drop just a small distance below the skimmer mouth before cavitation becomes an issue. This line keeps the skimmer from drawing air into the pump system if the water level drops below the level of the main inlet. The purpose of an equalizer line arrangement was to allow the skimmer to keep operating if the pool water level drops below the opening to the skimmer. The second pipe is supposed to be for another line that is put thru the pool wall as a equalizer line so if the water drops below the skimmer on topthe other line will take in water and you wont burn up the pump.
Typically this line will daylight through the wall about 2 feet under the skimmer throat. Vgb certified nsf approved and cpsc listed swimming pool skimmer equalizer fitting is approved as a submerged suction outlet and can be used as a skimmers equalizer suction fitting for both floor and wall. The equalizer line is a suction line installed below the skimmer about 18 below the tile line. Pool installers are supposed to plumb the second line through the wall.
